The Next Leg of our Journey

As we sit by the pool in sunny Lower Alabama, Jake and I are discussing where we would like to travel to next; now that we have our travel trailer we are ready to see the world! Well, we are starting in the United States but it sure would be fun to branch out to international travel!

For now, we are going to enjoy the grandeur of our beautiful country by spending a few months in the northwestern part of the US. When we purchased our trailer it came with a one year free membership to Thousand Trails, which is essentially fancy, private, campgrounds around the US. With the free membership we were to choose an area of the country to explore and we will have free access to their campgrounds in that area. We can stay at each campground for up to 2 weeks at a time. So as we check out the different areas where these campgrounds are, we have free lodging! The other stipulation with the membership is that there has to be seven days in between each two week stint so we will boondock, camping in a remote area that is free or very inexpensive, at areas that we find on the way to our next destination.

But first we will head to Key West for a week! We were invited to join some close friends on their vacation down there. Once we are done with some fun in the sun we make the very long drive (36 hours) back to South Dakota. We will stop in Wisconsin to see Jake’s parents and pick up some of the stuff we left with them when we were backpacking on the Appalachian Trail. From there we head to see
some of my family in the Black Hills of South Dakota, pick up our other dog, passports, and load up some of our stuff in the storage unit where all of our worldly possessions are being stored! I am very much looking forward to having more than four outfits to wear!

After we equip our trailer with what we need for our travels we will make our way to Vancouver, British Columbia and spend about a week

there. We are thinking about maybe going to the Calgary Stampede, in Alberta, and then going back to the US and spending some quality time in Washington State and Oregon! We are already gathering ideas of what to go see and do but if you have suggestions, we would love to hear them! We did buy the Hiking Washington State Falcon Guide so that will be a great tool to find some hikes in the areas we are going.

For now, we are enjoying time with Jake’s middle brother, sister-in-law and their two kids! We will spend over two weeks at their home, working on our trailer and vehicle, sightseeing, swimming at the pool, hanging out, and just enjoying being with family!

Wow, you really are living the dream. Did you find it difficult to adjust to living in a vehicle or have you always done it?
