Things to Consider When Remodeling an RV

7/23/2021

What better way to spend a few weeks than giving an RV a facelift! Last fall, Jake and I decided to purchase a “fixer upper” recreational vehicle to see if we were the remodel sort of people. At the end of the project we are glad to say we are still married and didn’t kill each other…though not sure if remodeling is our team building activity of choice! Here is what we learned from the process and a little back story about the challenge this remodel ended up being!

This is not going to be the kind of article that tells you how easy it is to get your poop in a group, save money, get out of debt, and just live on that budget you have been trying to set for yourself for years. Nope, this article is going to talk about how you can practically live on a budget that you set for yourself and how to STICK TO IT! It is not easy and most of the time it is not fun, BUT by being on a budget you are free to live your financial goals and that is worth not having a latte every day, the nicest vehicle or the fanciest cloths!

How to Visit Key West on a Budget with your Pets

5/13/2019

When traveling on a budget it is challenging to decide what to spend your hard earned money on that will allow you to not only enjoy what your destination has to offer but to also learn about the area's history and culture. The nice thing about Key West is that there are a whole slew of activities to do that are free or budget friendly. This blog post shares what to see and do while in Key West with your pets all while maximizing your trip budget!

Key West is the southern most point in the United States, roughly 90 miles from Cuba, and is known for watersports, beaches, and pastel-hued conch-style architecture. It is a beautiful island that is part of the Florida Keys archipelago. If you have the pleasure to drive The Overseas Highway, which is 113 miles long, make sure to stop along the way to enjoy the some of the sites each island has to offer.

Decisions, Decisions: What Camper to Choose?

4/20/2019

After much deliberation we purchased a trailer! There are so many options, features, and styles to choose from it was quite the process to narrow it down to the type of camper that would fit our needs! As we were passing through Florida, on our way to Alabama, we found a 2015 Hiker Trailer at an RV store! This blog post is about why we choose this trailer compared to the other options that are out there!

Since November, when we first decided we were going to travel full time, we have been researching different options for our living arrangements while on the road. For us, we really wanted to stay below $15,000 for our purchase which would include a used vehicle, if we needed to. In addition, we wanted:

Debt is like the heavy weight being carried around with us everywhere we go. Every purchase, activity, vacation, or meal, thinking in the back of our minds: “Can we afford this? Should we really be spending our money on this?” It sucks and after 24 months of diligently working on paying off our debt, using the Dave Ramsey Baby Steps, we are DEBT FREE (excluding our home)! We didn’t want to be like the average American

Selling Your Dream Vehicle is Tough...

12/11/2018

For some a vehicle can just be a mode of transportation to get them from point A to point B. For others a vehicle can be their pride and joy, part of their identity, their passion. I fall somewhere in the middle of this spectrum and I sold Betty Blue today and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be.

I wouldn't consider myself a car person by any stretch of the imagination but I have dreamed about having a Honda CRV for a good decade. I made that dream a reality in May of 2017 by purchasing a 2015 Certified, Pre-Owned Honda CRV EX from the dealer! I felt so accomplished. It was my vehicle that I had purchased after I
worked so hard to become debt free (this was prior to getting married). I owned her free and clear. She had all of the accouterments I wanted and then some!

Budgeting is not something I would say is fun or exciting but I have learned though, over 24 months of working towards being debt free, that it is extremely rewarding! Putting together a monthly budget is so important because it helps you to see what you are spending, how you are spending it per category, where you over overspending and what areas you need to improve upon for the following month.

We have used the budget app,
EveryDollar, from Dave Ramsey and it is great! The app is

How to Plan a Ski Trip on a Budget!

11/25/2018

For the last 9 years I have planned a ski trip with friends where we do some big mountain skiing. Living in the Midwest this yearly retreat is a must for me because I absolutely adore skiing! The feel of the wind on my face as I maneuver down the mountain, the quiet all around me when I have a run all to myself, the smell of pine, and the burn of my legs when I go down a double black diamond and realize I have gone too far to turn back and
