​For the last 9 years I have planned a ski trip with friends where we do some big mountain skiing. Living in the Midwest this yearly retreat is a must for me because I absolutely adore skiing! The feel of the wind on my face as I maneuver down the mountain, the quiet all around me when I have a run all to myself, the smell of pine, and the burn of my legs when I go down a double black diamond and realize I have gone too far to turn back and

BEAR BEHAVIOR

Each bear is different and has a different personality. They can be shy, curious, or aggressive and can possess other attributes that we can identify as human.
  • Grizzly attack victims are often unaware of why they were attacked. Many attacks are caused by close encounters, where the bear has been surprised and feels threatened by human presence. A female with cubs will be especially aggressive and will defend her cubs from many possible threat.

While Jake and I were preparing for our Yellowstone backpacking trip this summer I had done quite a bit of research and prep work about the whole bear situation there. I was extremely nervous about camping in the back country. As well as all the risks that are involved and possibilities of not just having a run in with a bear but with elk or moose. One of the things I did right before the trip was buy a new can of pepper spray. 
My other one was a at least five years old and doesn’t have as much umpf as a new, fresh can would to deter a bear from attacking me.
