My fiance and I are always up for an adventure and so we planned a backpacking trio over Memorial weekend to Theodore Roosevelt National Park with a couple of our friends. We thought it was going to be so great. We thought we would see some beautiful wildlife and scenery. We thought so many wonderful things...but we didn't think about the other possibilities. But we survived. And this is our story!

We were so looking forward to finally being able to backpack the Achenbach Trail at Theodore Roosevelt National Park near Medora, ND. The Achenbach Trail is in the North Unit which offers steep climbs and descents and two river crossings that lead deep into the heart of the Theodore Roosevelt Wilderness. Words can't begin to describe the beauty of this area.

Badlands National Park - Summer

7/23/2017

Being one of only two national parks in South Dakota, the Badlands draw people from all over the world to view its beauty. The national park protects 244,000 acres and is home to bison, bighorn sheep, prairie dogs and black-footed ferrets. There is a bounty of mixed-grass prairie and my favorite part about the park is that it looks totally different during different times of the year! View my post from May of 2017 to see what I mean.

"Amazingly stunning" only begins to describe the grandeur and magnitude of Yosemite National Park! Part 3 of this journey begins when we arrive in Yosemite and have the most gorgeous views I have seen in my life to date!

I shall digress for a moment: Traveling in California is a different experience than I am normally used to because I am from the

Part 2 of our journey brought us to Sequoia National Park. We arrived on Tuesday in the late afternoon, purchased a National Parks Annual Pass and headed out to see if we could find a campsite. We lucked out and found a spot in Potwisha Campground. Since we just bought the annual pass, we got a nice discount on the cost of the campsite. I do love a deal!

Badlands National Park - Spring

Visiting the Badlands National Park in the Spring is completely different than seeing it in the summer! This was actually my first time being at the park when all the grass was green with all of the wild flowers blooming. I HIGHLY recommend visiting the park at this time of year. It was not crazy hot, not too many people and there was so much more to see!

My boyfriend, Jake, and I decided that this year we wanted to go to Yellowstone and see the sights but also do some backcountry hikes, because I mean, why not, right? I try to always face my fears and not be held back by what could happen, because that is no way to live life. Yeah, that is sure great in theory but when push comes to shove…I don’t want to get eaten by a bear! So, we decided to “wing it” on this trip and just fly by the seat of our pants. There was just too much to see and do to try and plan it all out. Thank God we didn’t plan everything otherwise it would have been super stressful.
