Outdoor Campus - West

I am a big proponent of being connected with your community! One of the many reasons I love living here is that each community in the Black Hills area provides so many different opportunities to enjoy this beautiful place that are absolutely free of cost!

The Outdoor Campus - West is one of my favorite places to learn about a variety of topics related to the outdoors. Each season they post a new list of classes for all different age groups to learn about things like archery, orienteering, shooting, fishing, wilderness 

first aid, dutch oven cooking, and so much more! It is so great because they offer different classes each season so there is always something new to learn about.

The other awesome thing is if you have a topic that is not listed and you really want to learn more about it, you just have to contact the program manager and organize the class with him. I normally work with Keith! The only requirement is that there needs to be at lease 10 - 12 people coming to the class you want to organize. I normally post something online and the class fills up pretty quick!

Lastly, they have a wildlife display inside their building that is a great introduction to the plants and wildlife of this area. And there is a live snake and small aquarium! Such a great place for kids!

If you haven't been over there yet, definitely stop on by. I just can't say enough positive things about the people that work there and the interns; everyone is so just nice and friendly!​ They also have a nice walking path around their property and the building is beautiful on the inside and out! ​​
