It's time for the Rodeo in Rapid City!

It's that time of the year again for the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo!  This year marks the 60th annual event. Next to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo is the second largest event in South Dakota each year! From January 26 - February 4, 2018, cowboys and ranchers come to compete in 10 different cattle shows, ranch rodeos and 14 different horse events. This is a family friendly event at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center and such a fun time!

In addition to the horse and rodeo events there are hundreds of vendors to shop from that offer western gear, clothing and tons more! I would suggest making time to shop the Cinch Trade Show before the rodeo starts! The booths are open each day starting at 10:00am. Though closing times very during the week so check out their schedule here.

My favorite part of the Black Hills Rodeo & Stock Show is, of course, the rodeo! Cowboys come from all over the US and Canada to compete in the Sutton Rodeo! It is pretty amazing to watch! The history of the Sutton family is pretty interesting and well worth the read. 

There are two main events with the Sutton Rodeo, the PRCA Xtreme Bull Tour (January 26th - 27th) and the PRCA Rodeo (Jan 27th - Feb 3rd). If you can, spring for the VIP seats during any evening of the Sutton Rodeo. It is so worth the money and a totally different experience!

​Another event you must make time to see is the Ranch Rodeo. There are different teams, within a five state area, that are competing for thousands of dollars worth of cash and prizes. The event is held at the  James Kjerstad Event Center on the Central States Fairgrounds. If you only have time for one event, check out the finals which are on Tuesday night at 7:30pm!
